Twitter Thread Splitter
Split long text into numbered X/Twitter thread posts at word boundaries. 280-char default, custom limits, per-post copy buttons. Free, no signup.
About the Twitter Thread Splitter
Writing a thread by manually counting characters is miserable. Paste your full text here — an article, a story, an argument — and this tool splits it into ready-to-post chunks that each fit the limit, breaking only at word and paragraph boundaries so no word is ever chopped in half.
Numbering is added automatically in your preferred style — a '1/7' suffix, a '(1/7)' prefix, or none — and the space the counter needs is reserved before splitting, so every post stays under the limit including its number. The default is X's 280 characters, with presets for Threads/Mastodon (500) and LinkedIn (3000), plus a fully custom limit.
Each post appears as a card with its exact character count and its own copy button, so posting a thread becomes copy, paste, reply, repeat. Everything runs in your browser; your draft is never uploaded or stored.
How to Use the Twitter Thread Splitter
- 1Paste your long text into the editor.
- 2Pick the character limit and a numbering style.
- 3Click Split into Thread.
- 4Copy each post in order — or copy the entire thread at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I split a long text into tweets?
Paste it here and click Split — the tool cuts it into posts under 280 characters each, breaking at word boundaries and adding 1/n numbering automatically. Copy each card into X as a reply to the previous post.
Does the numbering count against the character limit?
Yes, on X every character of ' 3/12' counts. This tool reserves that space before splitting, so each post including its number stays under the limit.
What's the ideal length for thread posts?
Slightly under the limit reads best — posts that end on a complete sentence get more engagement than ones cut mid-thought. The splitter respects paragraph breaks, so structure your draft in short paragraphs for the cleanest cuts.
Why does the tool say my post is under 280 but X disagrees?
X counts most emoji, and characters in scripts like Urdu and Arabic, as 2 characters each, while URLs always count as 23. If your text is heavy in these, use a custom limit of ~140 to stay safe.
Can I use this for LinkedIn or Threads?
Yes — presets cover Threads/Mastodon (500) and LinkedIn (3000), and the custom limit handles anything else. The splitting logic is identical.
