Instagram Grid Splitter

Split one photo into 3, 6, 9 or 12 square tiles for a seamless Instagram grid. Numbered posting order, ZIP download, no upload.

About the Instagram Grid Splitter

Turn one large photo into a seamless Instagram grid. Upload an image, choose a layout — 3×1, 3×2, the classic 3×3 or 3×4 — and the tool center-crops and slices it into perfect squares sized for Instagram. Each tile is numbered with its posting order so the finished grid lines up exactly.

Posting order is the part everyone gets wrong: Instagram shows your newest post at the top-left, so you must upload the bottom-right tile first and the top-left tile last. The ZIP download names the files 1.jpg, 2.jpg and so on in that exact posting order — just post them in numeric sequence.

The image is cropped and split entirely in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded to any server. Tiles export as high-quality JPGs at up to 1080×1080 pixels, the size Instagram actually displays, and you can save them individually or grab everything in one ZIP.

How to Use the Instagram Grid Splitter

  1. 1Upload the photo you want to turn into a grid.
  2. 2Pick a layout: 3×1, 3×2, 3×3 or 3×4 — the image is center-cropped so each tile is square.
  3. 3Click Split Image and check the numbered preview.
  4. 4Download all tiles as a ZIP (named 1.jpg, 2.jpg… in posting order) or save tiles individually.
  5. 5Post the tiles to Instagram in numeric order, starting with 1.jpg.

Frequently Asked Questions

In what order do I post the tiles to Instagram?

Start with 1.jpg and count upwards. Instagram places the newest post at the top-left of your profile grid, so the bottom-right tile must go up first and the top-left tile last. The ZIP from this tool already numbers the files in that posting order — just follow the numbers.

What size should each Instagram grid tile be?

Instagram displays grid squares at 1080×1080 pixels, and this tool exports tiles at exactly that size whenever your source photo is large enough. For the sharpest 3×3 grid, start from an image at least 3240 pixels wide so every one of the nine tiles gets the full 1080 pixels.

Why does the tool crop my photo before splitting it?

A seamless grid only works if every tile is a perfect square, which means the whole image must have a 3:1, 3:2, 1:1 or 3:4 ratio depending on the layout. The tool center-crops to the closest fit automatically. If the important subject is off-center, crop the photo yourself first with our image cropper.

Will the grid stay aligned after Instagram compresses my photos?

Yes. Instagram compresses each post but never shifts or re-crops squares, so the seams still meet. Two tips help: export at the full 1080-pixel tile size (avoids extra recompression) and remember that profile-grid thumbnails have small gaps between them — the effect looks best on your profile page, slight gap included.

Is my photo uploaded when I split it?

No. The cropping, slicing and ZIP packaging all run in your browser with the canvas API and JavaScript — the photo never leaves your device. That makes the tool safe for unreleased campaign artwork, client content and personal photos alike, with no account and no limits.
