Open Graph Checker

Free Open Graph checker — fetch any page to inspect its OG and Twitter Card tags, preview the social share card, and spot missing recommended tags.

About the Open Graph Checker

Open Graph and Twitter Card tags control how your link looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and X. This free Open Graph checker fetches any page server-side, reads every og: and twitter: meta tag, and renders a live preview of the share card exactly as social platforms would.

It lists all the tags it finds in a table, builds the preview from og:image, og:title and og:description, and checks for the recommended set — og:title, og:type, og:image, og:url, og:description and twitter:card — flagging any that are missing. A missing og:image is the single most common reason shared links look broken.

Whether you are launching a page, debugging an ugly share preview, or copying what works from a competitor, this tool shows you exactly what social networks will display and what to fix.

How to Use the Open Graph Checker

  1. 1Enter the page URL you want to inspect.
  2. 2Click Check tags to fetch the page server-side.
  3. 3Review the social preview and the full tag table.
  4. 4Add any missing recommended tags and re-check the preview.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph tags are meta tags (og:title, og:description, og:image and more) that tell social platforms how to display your link when it is shared. They set the preview title, description and image. Without them, platforms guess — often picking a random image or truncated text.

What size should the og:image be?

Use 1200 × 630 pixels for a large, sharp share card that works across Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter's summary_large_image. Keep the file under about 5 MB and use an absolute HTTPS URL. Images that are too small or the wrong ratio get cropped awkwardly or ignored.

Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?

Twitter falls back to Open Graph tags if Twitter-specific ones are absent, so at minimum set OG tags plus twitter:card. Adding twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image gives you precise control over the X preview, but for many sites the OG tags alone cover both.

Why does my shared link show an old image?

Social platforms cache Open Graph data. After updating your tags, use the platform's debugger — Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector — to force a re-scrape so the new image and text appear. This checker shows your current live tags so you know what should display.

Do Open Graph tags affect SEO?

Not directly — Google does not use og tags as a ranking factor. But they strongly affect click-through from social media by making shared links attractive, which drives traffic and engagement. Good social previews are part of a healthy overall content strategy.
