Rent Receipt Generator (India)

Generate rent receipts for HRA claims — one PDF with monthly receipts, landlord PAN, revenue stamp box and amount in words. Free, private.

About the Rent Receipt Generator (India)

Generate a full year of rent receipts in one click — formatted the way Indian employers expect for HRA (House Rent Allowance) claims. Enter the tenant and landlord names, monthly rent, property address and payment mode, choose the starting month and number of months, and download a single PDF with one signed-ready receipt per month.

HRA is one of the biggest tax exemptions available to salaried employees in India, but claiming it requires proper rent receipts: most employers ask for monthly or quarterly receipts showing the rent amount in figures and words, the rented address, the period, and the landlord's signature — plus the landlord's PAN when annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000.

Each receipt includes a numbered header, date, the amount written out in Indian words (lakhs and thousands), the landlord's name and PAN, a signature line and a marked box for a revenue stamp (customary for cash payments above ₹5,000). Everything is generated in your browser, so salary-linked details stay private.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the landlord's PAN required for HRA claims?

Yes, when the annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000 (about ₹8,333 per month), income-tax rules require employees to report the landlord's PAN to their employer for the HRA exemption. Below that threshold, receipts alone are enough. If the landlord has no PAN, employers typically accept a signed declaration in Form 60 instead — ask your payroll team.

Do I need a revenue stamp on rent receipts?

A revenue stamp is customary on receipts for cash payments above ₹5,000 under the Indian Stamp Act, and the landlord should sign across it. For rent paid by UPI, bank transfer or cheque, a stamp is generally not required since the transaction itself is documented. Each receipt in the PDF includes a marked box so a stamp can be affixed when needed.

How many rent receipts do employers need for HRA?

Practice varies: many employers ask for one receipt per month, while others accept quarterly receipts or just three or four samples covering the year. This generator produces one receipt for each month in your chosen period — up to 12 in a single PDF — so you are covered whichever policy your payroll team follows.

Can I generate receipts for past months?

Yes. Choose any starting month — including earlier months of the financial year — and the number of months, and receipts are dated on the last day of each respective month. Rent receipts are typically prepared or signed at proof-submission time for rent already paid; just ensure the details match what was actually paid, as employers may verify.

Are rent receipts alone enough to claim HRA?

Usually, yes — signed receipts (with the landlord's PAN where rent exceeds ₹1 lakh a year) are the standard proof employers accept. Some companies additionally request the rent agreement, and the assessing officer can ask for bank statements in scrutiny cases. Paying by UPI or bank transfer creates a clean trail that backs up your receipts.

Is my salary or rent information uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is assembled entirely in your browser — names, PAN, address and amounts never leave your device. Nothing is stored or logged anywhere, which makes the tool safe for the personal and financial details rent receipts necessarily contain.
