Add Header and Footer to PDF

Add repeating headers and footers to every PDF page free — with {page} and {total} tokens, alignment and font size. Private, in your browser.

About the Add Header and Footer to PDF

Stamp a consistent header, footer, or both onto every page of a PDF. Type any text — a title, company name, document reference or date — and drop in the {page} and {total} tokens to number pages automatically, for example "Page {page} of {total}". Pick left, centre or right alignment and a font size to suit the layout.

It is ideal for finishing off reports, contracts and handouts with page numbers and a running title, or adding a confidentiality line across a whole document. The text is drawn into each page at a consistent margin so it lines up perfectly throughout.

Everything is applied on your device with pdf-lib — the PDF is never uploaded, and there are no watermarks or limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add automatic page numbers?

Include the {page} token where you want the current page number and {total} for the page count — for example "Page {page} of {total}" in the footer. The tokens are replaced on every page automatically.

Can I add just a footer, or just a header?

Yes. Fill in only the field you need and leave the other blank. You can also set both to have a running title up top and page numbers along the bottom.

Will the text overlap my existing content?

Headers sit near the top margin and footers near the bottom, at a consistent inset. If your pages already have content in those areas, reduce the font size or adjust your text so it doesn't collide. The tool draws over the existing page rather than reflowing it.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The header and footer are added entirely in your browser with pdf-lib, so the file stays on your device.
