Work Hours Calculator

Calculate daily paid work hours after breaks, plus weekly, monthly and yearly totals and an optional pay estimate. Free, instant, no signup.

About the Work Hours Calculator

Enter your clock-in time, clock-out time and unpaid break minutes, and this work hours calculator instantly shows your paid time for the day — in hours and minutes and in the decimal format payroll uses. Overnight shifts are detected automatically, so a 22:00 to 06:00 shift correctly counts eight hours before breaks.

Tell it how many days a week you work and it projects your weekly, monthly (using the true average of 4.35 weeks per month) and yearly hours. Add an hourly rate and you'll also see what a typical day and week earn — a quick sanity check for job offers, part-time contracts and freelance day rates.

It's a lighter, single-shift companion to the full weekly timesheet calculator: perfect when every workday looks the same and you just want the numbers. Everything runs in your browser with a one-click copyable summary.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between time on site and paid hours?

Time on site is clock-out minus clock-in; paid hours subtract your unpaid breaks from that. A 9:00-17:30 day with a 45-minute lunch is 8.5 hours on site but 7.75 paid hours. Both figures are shown so you can see exactly where the time goes.

Why does the monthly figure use 4.35 weeks?

A year has 52.14 weeks spread over 12 months, which averages 4.345 weeks per month. Multiplying weekly hours by 4 understates a real month; 4.35 is the standard factor HR departments use to convert weekly hours or pay to monthly equivalents.

Does it work for overnight and night-shift schedules?

Yes. When the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight and adds 24 hours — so 20:00 to 04:30 with a 30-minute break yields 8 paid hours. A note in the results confirms an overnight shift was detected.

Is a 40-hour week the norm?

It's the most common full-time standard in the US and much of Asia; the EU working-time directive caps average weeks at 48 hours, while several European countries have 35-38.5 hour standards. This calculator makes it easy to see how your own schedule compares.

Can I calculate pay for a different currency?

Yes — the rate field is currency-agnostic. Enter your rate in rupees, dollars, euros or anything else, and the pay estimates come out in the same unit. No conversion happens; it's plain multiplication of paid hours by rate.
