Tip & Discount Calculator

Calculate the tip and split the bill between friends, or find the final price after any discount percentage.

About the Tip & Discount Calculator

This tip calculator works out the tip amount, the total bill including tip, and each person's share when you split with friends — instantly, as you type. Enter the bill, choose a tip percentage (15% is preset, but any value works) and set the number of people. No more awkward mental maths when the cheque arrives.

The maths is straightforward: tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100, and per-person share = (bill + tip) ÷ number of people. Common tipping norms range from 10% for casual service to 15–20% in the US for sit-down restaurants; in India, 5–10% is typical where a service charge is not already added.

A second section handles discounts: enter an original price and a discount percentage to see exactly how much you save and the final price you pay. It is perfect for sale shopping, comparing "40% off" against "flat 500 off" style offers, or checking that a store's till applied the advertised markdown correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a tip quickly?

Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100 — a 15% tip on 80 is 12. A handy mental shortcut: 10% is just the bill with the decimal moved one place left; add half of that again for 15%, or double it for 20%.

How much should I tip at a restaurant?

Norms vary by country. In the US, 15–20% is standard for table service. In India, 5–10% is appreciated, but check the bill first — many restaurants add a service charge, in which case an extra tip is optional. In countries like Japan, tipping is not customary at all.

How is the bill split calculated with tip included?

The calculator adds the tip to the bill first, then divides the grand total equally by the number of people. For a 100 bill with 15% tip split four ways, each person pays (100 + 15) ÷ 4 = 28.75. For unequal splits, divide each person's items separately and add their share of the tip.

How do I calculate the final price after a discount?

Final price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). A 20% discount on 1,299 means you save 259.80 and pay 1,039.20. The discount section of this calculator does both steps for you and shows the savings and the final price separately.

How do stacked discounts like 30% + extra 10% work?

Sequential discounts apply one after another, not added together. An item at 30% off then an extra 10% off costs price × 0.70 × 0.90 = 63% of the original — a 37% total discount, not 40%. Run the calculator twice, feeding the first result into the second, to verify a stacked offer.
