Salary to Hourly Calculator

Convert annual salary to hourly rate — or hourly to yearly — with monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily pay based on your real working hours.

About the Salary to Hourly Calculator

This salary to hourly calculator converts pay in both directions: turn an annual salary into its true hourly rate, or project an hourly wage into yearly earnings. Enter one figure along with your hours per week (default 40) and working weeks per year (default 52), and the tool lays out the full pay grid — hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly and annual — instantly.

The conversion is straightforward: hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). At 40 hours and 52 weeks that is 2,080 working hours a year, so a 60,000 salary equals about 28.85 per hour, roughly 230.77 per day and 5,000 per month. Reverse it and a 25-per-hour job is worth 52,000 a year at full-time hours.

The adjustable assumptions are the point. Freelancers who bill 30 hours across 46 working weeks, or salaried staff quietly averaging 50-hour weeks, get very different effective rates than the headline number suggests. Comparing a salaried offer against contract work — or checking what overtime-free extra hours do to your real wage — takes seconds here. Figures are gross, before taxes and deductions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the annual salary by your total working hours per year: hours per week × weeks per year. The standard assumption is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours, so a 75,000 salary is 75,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ 36.06 per hour. If you actually work 45-hour weeks, the same salary is only about 32.05 per effective hour.

How much is 25 dollars an hour per year?

At full-time hours — 40 per week for 52 weeks — 25 per hour equals 25 × 2,080 = 52,000 per year, or about 4,333 per month and 1,000 per week before taxes. With two weeks of unpaid leave (50 working weeks), it drops to 50,000. Enter your own numbers above to adjust for any schedule.

Should I use 52 or 50 weeks per year in the calculation?

Use 52 if you are salaried or receive paid vacation — you are paid for every week whether or not you work it. Use fewer weeks (50, 48, or less) if you are hourly or freelance and unpaid time off directly reduces income. This distinction is exactly why the same nominal rate can be worth meaningfully less as a contractor.

Why is my calculated monthly pay different from my payslip?

Two common reasons. First, these figures are gross — payslips show net pay after income tax, social security or provident fund contributions and other deductions. Second, biweekly payroll (26 payments) does not equal twice-monthly (24 payments): two months a year contain a third biweekly payday, so a biweekly cheque is annual ÷ 26, slightly less than half a monthly amount.

How do freelancers compare an hourly rate to a salaried offer?

Do not compare rates one-to-one. Freelancers cover their own leave, sick days, insurance, retirement contributions and non-billable admin time, and rarely bill 40 hours weekly. A common rule of thumb: divide the target salary by around 1,000–1,400 realistic billable hours rather than 2,080 — meaning a fair freelance rate is often 1.5–2× the salaried hourly equivalent.
