Final Grade Calculator

Free final grade calculator: enter your current grade, the exam weight and target grade to see the exact final exam score you need — plus a what-if table.

About the Final Grade Calculator

"What do I need on the final?" has an exact answer: required score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − exam weight)) ÷ exam weight. This free final grade calculator applies that formula instantly, tells you whether the target is even achievable, and shows a what-if table of the score needed for targets of 50%, 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% so you can plan study time where it pays off.

For example, with a current grade of 78%, a final worth 40% and a target of 85%, you need (85 − 78 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 95.5% on the exam — very tough. Aiming for 80% instead needs a manageable 83%. Students in schools, colleges and universities across Pakistan, India and worldwide use this in the run-up to every exam season. It runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate what I need on my final exam?

Required = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, with weight as a decimal. Current grade 78%, final worth 40%, target 85%: (85 − 78 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = (85 − 46.8) ÷ 0.4 = 95.5… ≈ 96%. The calculator does this arithmetic instantly.

What if the required score is over 100%?

The target is mathematically impossible — even a perfect final falls short. With a 65% current grade and a 30% final, the best achievable course grade is 65 × 0.7 + 100 × 0.3 = 75.5%. The calculator flags this so you can set a realistic target instead.

What if the required score is negative or zero?

You have already secured the target. With a 95% current grade, a 20% final and a 75% target: (75 − 95 × 0.8) ÷ 0.2 = (75 − 76) ÷ 0.2 = −5%, so even a 0 on the final leaves you at 76%. The calculator reports this as 'already secured' — though most institutions still require you to sit the exam.

How does the exam weight change what I need?

Heavier finals amplify everything. Needing to climb 7 points above an 78% current grade requires 95.5% on a 40%-weight final but 101.3% (impossible) on a 30%-weight one — a lighter final gives your existing grade more inertia in both directions.
