Voice Recorder

Record your voice in the browser with a live level meter and timer, then download as WebM or convert to MP3. Free, private, no upload.

About the Voice Recorder

This free voice recorder captures audio from your microphone right in the browser — great for voice memos, quick narration, pronunciation practice or dictation. A live level meter shows your input in real time and a timer tracks the length, so you can see that you are being picked up clearly. You can pause and resume within a take.

When you stop, your recording appears in a player ready to download as a WebM (Opus) file. If you need the more universal MP3 format, an optional one-click conversion re-encodes it using FFmpeg WebAssembly. Everything — recording and conversion — happens on your device; nothing is streamed or uploaded.

The MP3 conversion relies on the same in-browser engine (about 30 MB, downloaded from a CDN on first use), so that first conversion takes a little longer. Microphone access requires the site to be served over HTTPS and for you to grant permission when prompted; recordings up to 100 MB can be converted to MP3.

How to Use the Voice Recorder

  1. 1Click Start Recording and allow microphone permission when your browser asks.
  2. 2Watch the level meter to confirm your voice is being captured; pause and resume if needed.
  3. 3Click Stop — your recording appears with a player.
  4. 4Download the WebM, or optionally convert it to MP3 first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. Recording happens in your browser and any MP3 conversion runs on your device too. Nothing is streamed or uploaded — your voice recording stays private.

Why is the first conversion slow?

Converting to MP3 downloads the FFmpeg core (~30 MB) from a CDN the first time and compiles it in your browser. It is cached afterwards, so later conversions are quick. The WebM download needs no conversion.

Why won't my microphone work?

Check that you granted microphone permission, that the page is on HTTPS, and that no other app is using the mic. You can reset permission in your browser's site settings.

Should I download WebM or MP3?

WebM (Opus) is instant and high quality in modern browsers. MP3 is more universally compatible with older devices and apps, but has to be converted first, which takes a moment.

Can I pause and continue a recording?

Yes. Use the Pause button to stop temporarily and Resume to keep going in the same take — the timer and meter pick up where they left off.
