About the Video to GIF Converter

This free Video to GIF converter turns a segment of any video into a clean, optimized animated GIF. You set the start time and duration, choose the width and frame rate, and the tool generates a custom color palette so the GIF looks sharp while staying as small as possible. It is perfect for reaction GIFs, tutorials and looping clips for chat, docs or social posts.

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly — your video is never uploaded. The engine (about 30 MB) downloads from a CDN the first time you use any converter here and is then cached, which is why the first GIF takes longer to build.

GIF is a heavy format for motion, so keep the segment short and the frame rate modest (10–15 fps) to control the size. For long or high-quality clips an MP4 is far smaller — but a GIF loops automatically anywhere. Videos up to 100 MB are supported.

How to Use the Video to GIF Converter

  1. 1Choose a video file, up to 100 MB.
  2. 2Set the start time and how many seconds to capture.
  3. 3Choose the width and frame rate (10–15 fps is a good balance).
  4. 4Click Convert to GIF, preview the loop and download it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. All processing runs in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — only the converter engine is downloaded, once.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time you use any converter here, the browser downloads the FFmpeg core (about 30 MB) from a CDN and compiles it. It is then cached for the session, so later runs are much faster.

How do I keep the GIF small?

Capture a short segment, lower the frame rate (around 10 fps) and reduce the width. Each of these cuts the size a lot — GIF stores every frame, so fewer, smaller frames means a lighter file.

Which part of the video becomes the GIF?

The segment you set with the start time and duration — for example start at 8 seconds for 3 seconds captures 8s to 11s. The rest of the video is ignored.

Should I use MP4 instead?

If you do not need automatic looping everywhere, MP4 is far smaller and smoother. GIF is worth it when you need a clip that loops on its own in any app or webpage.
