Mute Video
Remove the audio track from any video in your browser without re-encoding — no quality loss, same format. Free, private, no upload.
About the Mute Video
This free mute video tool strips the sound out of a video, leaving a clean, silent clip. It is handy for removing background chatter, muting copyrighted music before sharing, or preparing a video that will get a new voice-over or soundtrack later.
The tool copies your video stream untouched and simply drops the audio, so there is no re-encoding — the process is fast and there is zero loss of video quality. The output keeps the same format as your input (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV).
All of this happens in your browser through FFmpeg WebAssembly, so your video is never uploaded to a server. The engine (about 30 MB) downloads from a CDN on first use and is cached, which is why the first run is slower than the ones after it. Videos up to 100 MB are supported.
How to Use the Mute Video
- 1Choose a video file (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), up to 100 MB.
- 2Preview it to confirm it is the right clip.
- 3Click Mute Video — the audio is removed while the video is copied losslessly.
- 4Preview the silent video and download it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The audio is removed in your browser with FFmpeg WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device — only the engine is downloaded, once.
Why is the first run slow?
The first time you use a converter here, the FFmpeg core (~30 MB) is downloaded from a CDN and compiled. It is then cached, so later runs are much faster.
Will muting reduce my video quality?
No. The video stream is copied without re-encoding, so the picture is bit-for-bit identical to the original — only the audio track is dropped.
What video formats are supported?
Common formats including MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. The muted output keeps the same format as your original file.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, 100 MB. Because the video is handled in your browser's memory, very large files may be slow — trim long clips first if you hit the limit.
