Audio Noise Reducer

Reduce hum, rumble and hiss from audio in your browser with high-pass/low-pass filters and a noise gate. Free WAV output, private, no signup.

About the Audio Noise Reducer

This free audio noise reducer cleans up recordings using three classic studio techniques, all running in your browser: a high-pass filter that cuts low-frequency hum and rumble (air conditioners, mains hum, desk thumps), an optional low-pass filter that tames high-frequency hiss, and a noise gate that automatically turns down the volume in the gaps between speech so constant background noise disappears when nobody is talking.

To set expectations honestly: this is basic noise filtering — not AI noise removal. It is very effective against steady, predictable noise like hum, rumble and hiss, and it noticeably cleans up voice memos, lecture recordings and podcast takes. It cannot separate a voice from music, wind gusts or a chattering crowd the way AI models attempt to.

Your audio is decoded and processed entirely on your device with the Web Audio API — nothing is uploaded. Files up to 20 MB and 10 minutes are supported, with instant before/after players and a downloadable 16-bit WAV.

How to Use the Audio Noise Reducer

  1. 1Upload an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG, up to 20 MB / 10 minutes).
  2. 2Set the high-pass frequency (80 Hz suits voice), optionally enable the low-pass hiss filter, and adjust the noise-gate threshold.
  3. 3Click Reduce Noise and compare the before and after players.
  4. 4Download the cleaned audio as a WAV file.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of noise can this remove?

Steady, consistent noise: low-frequency hum and rumble (mains hum, AC, traffic rumble) via the high-pass filter, high-frequency hiss via the low-pass filter, and constant room noise between sentences via the noise gate. It is not designed for variable noise like wind, music or crowds.

Is this AI noise removal?

No — and we label it honestly. It uses classic audio filters and a gain-automation noise gate, the same building blocks found in audio editors. That makes it instant and private, but less capable than AI-based tools on complex noise.

What does the noise gate threshold do?

The tool measures loudness in 50 ms windows; whenever the audio falls below your threshold (in dB), the volume is smoothly turned down. Set it just above the level of your background noise — too high and it will clip quiet speech.

Why is the output a WAV file?

WAV is uncompressed and can be generated reliably in the browser without quality loss. It is larger than MP3, but you can compress it afterwards in any editor or converter without stacking two lossy encodes.

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, filtering and WAV encoding all happen in your browser via the Web Audio API. The file never leaves your device — safe for private voice notes and meetings.
